Prior Acts Coverage protects you from medical malpractice
claims that are reported to HAPI after you become a member but were incurred
and not known during the time you were covered by your previous carrier.
In the future, if you need to terminate coverage with HAPI,
you will have the option of purchasing tail coverage. Tail coverage protects
you from malpractice claims that occurred while you were a member but were
asserted after you left the Plan.
When a HAPI member needs a temporary relief for their practice,
they may request Locum Tenens coverage for a substitute physician. The substitute
physician does not have to be a HAPI member. If the substitute physician does
not have his/her own coverage, he/she must apply to HAPI and be approved to
the Plan. To expedite the process, HAPI can provide members with a listing
of approved locums for their specialty.
